Product Application

Bare Plaster

Prepare and apply one coat of Pittaway Acrylic Primer Sealer (two may be needed depending on surface condition).

Preparation

Lay lengths of paper or plastic sheets immediately below the surface to be decorated to collect the surplus flakes, which fall away from the wall. Fill the gun container with flakes. Connect the gun to an air supply giving a spraying pleasure of 40-50 p.s.i. (3 bar) with a minimum volume of 4.5 cubic feet ( 0.13 cubic metres) per minute. Adjust the knob on the top of the spray gun until a steady stream of flakes comes from the nozzle. (Spray into a plastic bag until the correct flow is achieved).

Brush Roller Coating and Spraying

This part of the system is best carried out by two man team if large areas are to be covered - one applying the Base Coat, the other spraying the flakes.

1) Apply by lambs wool roller or brush a thick even coat of the Base Coat at a spreading rate of 25-28 square metres (28-33 square yards) per 5 litres. Best results are achieved with a lambs wool roller - particularly in large areas. When cutting in by brush ensure that the same spreading rate is maintained. As this Base Coat is used as an adhesive for the flakes it is important that the drying is not accelerated. Any central heating should be switched off until the application of the flakes has been completed.

2) Using the special ILUMITEX Multicolour spray gun, blow on the flakes, working in sections approximately 4' x 4' (1.25m x 1.25m) in the sequence shown in the diagram and using the following technique.

Section 1

Apply the Base Coat and follow immediately with a flake, spraying to within 6" (150mm) of the edges to be joined up. Spray horizontal pass first and fill in vertically or, if preferred, in a circular motion until the Base Coat is completely covered. Spray slowly holding the gun approximately 18" (500mm) from the wall.

Section 2

Apply the Base Coat ensuring that a complete join-up is made with the wet edge of Section 1 and follow immediately with the flakes, commencing from where the flakes were last applied and using the same spray technique.

Section's 3, 4, 5, and 6

Continue system as before.

This method will ensure that an even coverage throughout is obtained. Larger or smaller areas can be decorated easily by adapting this plan and by making use of natural 'breaks' in the wall (such as pipes, windows, doors etc.)

ILUMITEX Multicolour is impossible to overspray as the flakes will only adhere where is wet Base Coat exposed.

3) Collect the fallen flakes at reasonable intervals and return these to the polythene bag and mix well. N.B. Do not return the fallen flakes direct to the gun container.

Rubbing Down

ILUMITEX, Pearl Shades and Ultra Violet, when the base coat/flake coat is completely dry rub down thoroughly with medium grade sandpaper or a stiff brush to remove any loose flakes.

ILUMITEXTRA Pure Metallics and colour blends when the base coat/flake coat is completely dry finally bed down flakes by over rolling with a hard smooth roller.

Type 2 (Blue Gun) - Operates from a low pressure, high volume turbine and is suitable for smaller areas and non-continuous running.
